It is the start of a New Year and it was a nice winter morning for a walk, about 0 degrees Celsius. A great day for winter bird watching at Technoparc in Ville St.Laurent. On a sad note, construction or destruction of the pond is proceeding as I sit here and write. There were quite a few fellow BPQ birders who showed up for the walk led by Sheldon. We met many birders on the walk.

While waiting for the start of the walk we saw a  flock of Starlings and some crows.

By the airport, on chemin St. Francois we saw 8 Cardinals flying. I got shots of some of the birds we saw.

We saw Downy, Hairy, and Pileated Woodpeckers. This is a Hairy Woodpecker that was close enough for a shot.

We found a Long-eared Owl (a lifer) resting in a tree.

We found two Great Grey Owls (lifer) further on. One was a big brown blob in a sea of brown and green and could be seen from the trail. The second was in deeper and could only be seen from under the tree. As you can see, well hidden and he doesn’t look too happy with me. I took a few shots and left.

These Owls are nocturnal birds. They feed at night and rest during the day.  We should not disturb them and stress them while observing them.

This was a memorable day. I saw not one but two lifers.

That all for today’s walk.

Est numquam etiam nuper committitur Birding.
